you, with pleasure, to select your personalised programme. The
best times of year to go walking in Majorca are during the almond
tree blossom (from mid January to the end of February), the
spring flowering period (from the end of March until the end
of June) and the autumn flowering period (from mid September
until mid November).
FIRST
BLOCK.
1- Fornalutx.
Setting out from the Port of Sóller, climbing upwards between the olive groves with beautiful views of the Sóller valley, the mountains, the port and the sea before dropping down to the typical town of Fornalutx. Typical Majorcan lunch in a private country house between the orange trees. After coffee visit the picturesque village. We then carry on down the old horseshoe pass, across the “mora de Binbassi” farm between the orange and lemon orchards, until we reach Sóller. From here we return on the almost one hundred year old tram to the Port of Sóller.
Difficulty: low to medium. Distance: approx. 12km.
Altitude difference: 240m climb, 200m descent.
2-
Cala de Deià.
From the Port of Sóller we climb up between the hundreds
of year old olive trees via the head land country houses in
the direction of Deià, to then drop down between the
pines with marvellous panoramic scenes of the Deià coastline.
On route we will lunch on cold meats, Majorcan cheese, rustic
bread and Spanish red wine. Then we walk up and down a small
fishermen’s pathway stretching along the Deià coastline
under the coastal Llucalcari roadway until reaching the hidden
Cala de Deià (cove). Opportunity to swim. Weather permitting
we return by boat, if not a short climb up to the town of Deià
famous for it’s artists, visit the town and return by
bus along the coastal road.
Difficulty: low to medium. Distance: approx. 12 or 14km.
Altitude difference: 200m climb and descent.
3-
Deià.
Approx. 20 mins by bus along the coast road to the old artist’s
town of Deià. Visit the well kept little town. The excursion
starts climbing upwards along a rocky path crossing private
olive groves with fantastic view of the town and the “Majorca
Costa Brava”. After midday lunch is based on cold meats,
Majorcan cheese, rustic bread and Spanish red wine in a picnic
area. We then continue down a breathtaking descent. First down
a cart track between olive and carob trees with view of the
sea and the Tramuntana mountain range, and then along a horseshoe
pass with views of the Sóller valley, returning to the
Port of Sóller.
Difficulty: medium. Distance: approx. 14km.
Altitude difference: 350m climb and 550m descent.

Es Cornadora and el Barranc de Biniaraix circuit.
Tram from the Port up to the town of Sóller. After a good hour of steep zig zag climbing on the old cart track between oak trees and olive terraces we arrive at the inaccessible country house of S’Arrom (access only permitted with a mountain guide). Following a further hour climb above the forest tree line we reach the peak of Es Cornador Gros (964m). With good visibility there are spectacular views over “el Barranc de Biniaraix”, the Sóller valley and Puig Mayor (1445m). Typical lunch outdoors with national wine. A stony path puts us in the solitary L’Ofre valley, continuing a dizzy zig zag descent on the old horseshoe pass crossing through the magnificent “Barranc de Biniaraix” between imposing rocky walls to reach the romantic village of Biniaraix. Rest to have a drink in a local tavern. With the last of our efforts we pass the orange orchards into Sóller. Returning to the Port by tram.

- Camí de Castelló.
An easy excursion for the start of a programme. Straight from the hotel we walk along the bay to climb up to the Cap Gros lighthouse. Great views over the sea and the craggy north coast. A narrow and old smugglers path takes us inland. Around 13.00h Majorcan lunch in an olive grove. The old Palma post road snakes along conserving altitude between the olive groves, a panoramic balcony over the Sóller valley and the Tramuntana mountain range, until reaching “Pujol de’n Banya” Easy descent to Sóller with views of the “Coll de Sóller”. Return to the Port on the nostalgic tram.
Difficulty: low to medium. Distance: approx. 10 km.
Altitude difference: 280m climb and 240m descent.
6-
Comuna de Fornalutx.
Climb approx. 15 mins by bus to the communal forest of Fornalutx,
where we start a small ascent on a forest path between pines
with panoramic views of “Puig Major” and the deep
Sóller valley, until reaching a natural viewpoint over
the Port of Sóller. We continue climbing along a hunter’s
trail to arrive at the top of “Puig de sa Bassa (819m),
from where we can enjoy one of the best and complete views of
the valley, the sea and the Tramuntana mountain range. A dizzy
descent first of all on a track and then an old stone roadway
between olive groves. Zig zagging to reach a country house with
unbeatable views of Fornalutx. Typical lunch before reaching
the village for a visit. We continue down the old path to Sóller
crossing the pretty Binibassí farm and orange orchards.
Returning to the Port on the popular tram.
Difficulty: medium. Distance: approx. 14 km.
Altitude difference: approx. 290m climb and 780m descent.
7-
Vuelta al Puig de Bàlitx.
We leave the Port climbing upwards between the olive terraces up to “Coll de S’Illa”. Chance to visit an old coastal watch tower. We walk on through the olive groves situated on the craggy Majorcan “Costa Brava”, first on a track and then on a rocky path until coming to another rocky pathway. Continuing behind a hill the path enters a craggy area that between formations continues to gain altitude and with the help of our hands on occasion we progress on to the country house of “Balitx d’Amunt”. A little further on past the twisted over a hundred year old olive tress we arrive at “Mirador ses Barques”, a natural viewpoint over the valley and sea. After an hour descent on a horseshoe pass we arrive at the Port via the forgotten valley of Sa Figuera.
Difficulty: hard. Distance: approx. 13 km.
Altitude difference: approx.420m climb and descent.
SECOND
BLOCK.
1-Cala
Tuent.
Second Block 1-Cala Tuent Approx. 10 mins by bus to “Mirador
ses Barques”, a panoramic viewpoint overlooking the Port. An
excursion along enormous twisted hundreds of year old olive
trees across the ground of the three Bàlitx country houses.
Easy descent at the Bàlitx valley with a rest stop at Bàlitx
d’Avall. Short but steep climb up to the “Coll de Biniamar”.
The old horse shoe pass takes us snaking along the coast with
impressive scenes of the coast and mountain range until reaching
the hidden bay of Cala Tuent where we lunch on a beautiful restaurant
terrace overlooking the Mediterranean. Chance for a swim. Weather
permitting we return by boat. If not, by bus along the fascinating
“Sa Calobra” road. Difficulty: medium. Distance: approx: 15
km. Altitude difference: approx 250m climb, descent and climb
again.
2- Barranc de Biniaraix.
Approx. 30 mins by bus to the Cuber reservoir at the foot of
Puig Mayor (1445m). First of all we go around the water’s edge
by path before climbing between rocky mountains through the
valley until reaching the “Coll de L’Ofre”. With good weather
we can climb up to the peak (1092m). Descending through the
lonely Ofre valley and continuing to snake downwards on the
ancient stony Lluc monastery path, crossing the well known Biniaraix
precipice between spectacular stone walls. Lunch in the fresh
air in an olive grove. Following a 40 mins walk amongst olive
and carob tree terraces we reach the charming village of Biniaraix.
Rest stop at an old tavern and a little later walk to Sóller
visiting one of the last remaining mills for making olive oil
on the island. Return to the Port by Tram. Difficulty: Medium.
Distance: approx. 15 km. Altitude difference: approx. 140m climb
and 860m descent.
3- Camí des Metro (the old wood
trading road)
Approx. 20 mins by bus on the winding “Coll de Sóller” road
up to the Sa Reina (queen’s) font. We start our climb by an
old track though the pine forest with splendid formations along
with limestone ovens and coal miners shacks until arriving at
“la Coma de sa Palla”. Spectacular views of the Sóller valley,
the Tramuntana mountain range and especially of the Port of
Sóller. Dropping down through a hidden valley until reaching
the olive groves where we will enjoy a rustic lunch. After lunch
along the horseshoe path between beautiful olive trees and views
of the Majorcan mountain, we arrive at the Port of Sóller. Difficulty:
medium. Distance: approx. 14 km. Altitude difference: 200m climb
and 580m descent.
4- From Valldemossa to Deià via
the”Camí de S’Arxiduc”.
Approx. 30 mins by bus to the romantic town of Valldemossa.
Steep climb from the town between oak trees, via the old coal
miners trail to the “Camino del Archiduque Luís Salvador”(the
Duke Luís Salvador trail). Majestic views of the northern Majorcan
coast and the Teix Mountain. On reaching “Puig Caragolí” (944m)
we stop for a picnic lunch. From here we make a dizzy zig zag
descent following a shepherd’s path witnessing the view that
make up Deià, its bay and its privileged coastal environment.
Visit the town and return to the Port of Sóller by bus. Difficulty:
Medium to hard. Distance: approx. 12 km. Altitude difference:
500m climb and 730m descent.
5- Puig des Moro Catching the
tram to Sóller and then the train to the “Pujol de’n Banya”
viewpoint.
Splendid views of the orange tree valley and the Tramuntana
mountain range. From here we climb for an hour using forest
paths and tracks between olive and pine trees to the foot of
“Puig des Moro”, always enjoying an ample view of the Port of
Sóller and its surroundings. A panoramic descent puts us between
olive groves once more. Rustic lunch at country house and lastly
an old horseshoe pass leads us back to the Port of Sóller. Difficulty:
medium. Distance: approx. 13 km. Altitude difference: approx.
350m climb and 550m descent.
6- Vuelta al Tossals.
Approx 30 mins
by bus to the Cúber dam and the Noguer font. Short but steep
climb amongst reeds to “Puig de sa Font” from where we have
the privileged view of “Puig Major” (1445m), the highest peak
on the island. The descent follows a hunter’s track following
the steep edge of the d’Almadrà torrent to reach the “Tossals
Verds” shelter. Lunch. An old rocky path takes us up between
beautiful oaks, with ample views of “Es Pla” and the “Puig des
Massanella” mountain (1367m) up to a hill. Firstly descending
and then following a channel of water we head back with out
loosing height, with panoramic views of the “Gorg Blau” area,
back to where we set off from, the Noguer font. Difficulty:
medium to hard. Distance: approx. 14 km. Altitude difference:
from 780m climb to 900m, descent to 520m and climb to 800m.
7- To the foot of “Puig Mayor”
through the Bini Valley.
Approx.40
mins by bus to the funicular on the Sa Calobra road. Short climb
through rocky country side sparse in vegetation with the sea
down below and the Lluc valley behind us until we reach the
Bini valley. Already on a forest path we travel across the unfamiliar
north face of “Puig Mayor” rising up to the “Coll de Bini”,
an area rich in fossil minerals and splendid views. We picnic
on the hill with Majorcan produce. From here we descend firstly
through oak and pine trees via the “Comuna de Fornalutx” and
later snaking between olive trees to the picturesque town of
Fornalutx, stopping for a visit. Following a further hour walk
downwards on an old rocky path we come to Sóller via Binibassi
through orange orchards after having admired the most typical
of the Tramuntana mountain range. It’s this continual change
in the country side that makes this excursion so interesting.
Returning to the Port by Tram. Difficulty: medium to hard. Distance:
approx. 18 km. Altitude difference: approx: 220m climb and 860m
decent. .
THIRD
BLOCK.
1-
From Valldemossa via Teix to the “Coll de Sóller”.
Approx. 30 mins by bus to the romantic mountain town of Valldemossa. Short but steep climb from the town between oak trees on old hunters trails, with view of the bay of Palma, until we reach the “Camí de S’Arxiduc”. With good visibility there is the possibility to climb to the summit of Teix (1064m). Unique views of almost all the island. The descent is via the grounds of the country house Teix (only permitted in the company of a mountain guide) on a path with alpine views of the Tramuntana mountain range and then between hundred of years old oak trees before arriving at the “Coll de Sóller” mountain pass. Lunch in a typical old fashioned inn. Return via the winding “Coll de Sóller” road, to the Port.
Difficulty: medium to hard. Distance: approx. 14 km.
Altitude difference: approx. 630m climb and 560m descent.
2- Castell d’Alaró.
Approx. 1 hour by bus through country side filled with almond trees until reaching the small solitary mountain village of Orient. We start walking between apple tree plantations through the Orient valley and then suddenly climbing between oaks to the “Pla des Pouet”. We continue rising on a recently restored path to the ruins of the old Alaró castle. Unbeatable views of the Majorcan plains with its towns and fields. Steep descent between pine trees. Lunch in a typical Majorcan rustic country house. A further 6km comfortable descent past olive trees and then fields of almond trees until arriving at the stone rich town of Alaró. 30 mins by bus to return to the Sóller valley.
Difficulty: medium. Distance: approx. 12 km.
Altitude difference: climb from 455m to 850m and a descent to 225m.
3- Vuelta al Valle de Lluc.
Approx. 45 mins by bus along an interesting mountain road to
the country house “Son Massip” situated before the Lluc monastery.
Short and easy descent between hundreds of year old oaks to
Lluc. Stop and visit of the monastery. Continuing on we follow
on between huge formations via wide and comfortable forest paths
with impressive views of the highest mountain peaks in the Tramuntana
range. Typical lunch outdoors. Our excursion continues winding
comfortably between looked after pine s above and below along
the old pilgrims path to arrive again at the monastery. Rest
and return by bus. Difficulty: medium. Distance: approx. 14km.
Altitude difference: 200m climb and descent.
4- Comuna de Bunyola y Barrance
de Coanegra.
First we go up to Sóller by tram before enjoying the well known Sóller train, crossing the mountains and its thirteen tunnels to the tranquil town of Bunyola. Two hours climb along old coal miners paths with old limestone ovens in the largest pine wood forest on the island to “Es Penyals d’Honor”. Picnic outdoors. Descent with pretty views of the Orient valley and it’s surrounding areas along a forest path to “Es Freu”. Then continuing along the unknown “Barranc de Coanegra” to reach the almond tree fields of “Santa Maria en Es Pla”. Return by bus through the Sóller tunnel to the Port.
Difficulty: medium to hard. Distance: approx. 14km.
Altitude difference: approx. 550m climb and descent.
5- Crossing the Puig de Massanella
mountain.
Approx. 30 mins by bus to the Noguer font. Here we start our
climb to the highest peak on the island that can be visited.
A wide and comfortable path guides us firstly along a stretch
of water above the Gorg Blau reservoir and then through dense
oak trees on an easy hill to “Prat de Cúber”. From here a steep
climb on an alpine path that soon puts us at the height of the
wood until reaching the “Coll des Prat”. Possible with good
visibility to go up a craggy and rocky path to the top of Puig
de Massanella (1367m). Grandiose and well deserved view of the
whole island as well as its neighbour Menorca. Picnic outdoors.
Long and steep zig zag descent on the restored “Nevaters” path
with the ruins of “Cases de Nue” (Snow houses) with great views
over the Lluc valley until reaching the monastery. Return by
bus. Difficulty: hard. Distance: approx.=18 km Altitude difference:
approx. 600m climb and 860m descent.
6- Torrent de Pareis.
This route takes us across one of the most spectacular ravines in Europe. The torrent can only be tackled with good meteorological conditions and when the bed is dry. The following conditions are indispensable: you must be in good physical condition, must not suffer from vertigo, and have adequate footwear. Approx. 40 mins by bus across the mountains to the 18th century church of Escorca. An hour descent on a windy rocky path amongst reeds until reaching the torrent bed. From here between 300 metre high imposing rocky walls we arrive at s’Entreforc. This is where the LLuc and Gorg Blau torrents meet. It is here that we discover the incredible beauty of “sa Fosca”, a stretch tightly fitted in the Gorg Blau torrent, imposing its wild beauty upon us. In this paradise of rock we slowly descend between, over and by means of blocks of stone, rocky narrow ways and limestone barriers; we scale, we jump and we pull ourselves along to the last stretch where we can then comfortably reach the mouth of the torrent. Opportunity to swim. Lunch. We continue to the previously inaccessible port of Sa Calobra. Weather permitting we return by boat along the beautiful Majorcan north coast, if not then by bus via the famous Sa Calobra road.

Altitude difference: approx. 620m descent.
7- From Esporles via the Port
of Canonge to Bayalbufar.
Approx. 30 mins by bus between fields of almond and carob trees
to the peaceful town of Esporles. After crossing the town there’s
a gentle climb along a wide and comfortable path with view of
the bay of Palma up to “Mirant de Mar”, a natural balcony over
the coast of Port des Canaonge and the sea. An old fisherman’s
path takes us between beautiful pines to the solitary fisherman’s
town of Port des Canonge. Opportunity to swim and to enjoy a
typical lunch by the sea. Along an old patrol path that was
built to avoid the frequent pirate attacks of the past we go
gently upwards with fantastic views of the craggy coast and
the “sa Foradada” area, to reach the attractive town of Banyalbufar.
Situated between formidable orchard terraces and vineyards overlooking
the sea. Return by bus along the coastal road to the Port of
Sóller. Difficulty: low to medium. Distance: approx. 12km. Altitude
difference: approx. 150m climb, 350m descent and 150m climb.
